Dust of Seeming

Consumable

Rare Wondrous Item

0.5 lbs

A small pouch containing half a pound of Mirror Moss spores, harvested from the damp walls of caves where the fungus camouflages itself to near-invisibility with a naturally-occurring illusion. They have been ground up into a fine powder, enough for a single use.

Illusory Cloud.

When you use an action to throw a handful of the dust it disperses into the air in a cloud 30 feet across, and every creature within that area that the dust settles on is draped in a layer of illusion. Cast the Seeming spell, allowing each affected creature to choose their own appearance.

Spore Sickness.

Any creature that ingests or inhales the full pouch of dust must make a DC 18 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, they are Poisoned for 1 hour and develop Spore Sickness; initial symptoms start appearing 2d4 hours later.

Not all is as it seems.

Be very careful when handling Mirror Moss! It's harmless in its normal state, but once dried and made into a powder it is very dangerous if inhaled. More than one mage have lost their minds attempting to process this powder into a Dust of Seeming to harness its potent magical properties, but ended up afflicted with the deadly Spore Sickness.
